2024 Colorado State Senate Primary Results
18 of the 35 seats in the state's upper legislative chamber are up this year.
The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in Colorado to select candidates for the November general election. That included the races for half of the seats in the State Senate for regular four-year terms - 18 seats overall.
The Colorado State Senate currently features 23 Democrats and 12 Republicans. 10 incumbents ran for re-nomination today - with open seat contests in Districts 2, 5, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, and 28. It only takes a plurality of the vote for a candidate to receive their party’s nomination.
For District 2:
Jennifer Brady won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Lisa Frizell won the Republican primary with 66.3% against Tim Arvidson with 33.7%. 23,535 votes counted.
For District 5:
Cole Buerger won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Marc Catlin won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 6:
Vivian Smotherman won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Cleave Simpson Jr. won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 10:
No candidate qualified for the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Larry Liston won the Republican primary with 61.5% against David Stiver with 21.7% and Rex Tonkins with 16.7%. 18,769 votes counted.
For District 12:
Marc Snyder won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Stan VanderWerf won the Republican primary with 59.9% against Adriana Cuva with 40.1%. 14,358 votes counted.
For District 13:
Matt Johnston won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Scott Bright won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 14:
Cathy Kipp won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Phoebe McWilliams won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 16:
Incumbent Chris Kolker won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Robyn Carnes won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 17:
Incumbent Sonya Jaquez Lewis won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Tom Van Lone won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 18:
Judith Amabile won the Democratic primary with 77.2% against Jovita Schiffer with 22.8%. 26,177 votes counted.
No candidate qualified for the Republican primary.
For District 19:
Lindsey Daugherty won the Democratic primary with 64.0% against Obi Ezeadi with 36.0%. 20,790 votes counted.
Sam Bandimere won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 21:
Incumbent Dafna Michaelson Jenet won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Frederick Alfred Jr. won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 23:
No candidate qualified for the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Barbara Kirkmeyer won the Republican primary with 72.6% against Natalie Abshier with 27.4%. 17,898 votes counted.
For District 26:
Incumbent Jeff Bridges won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Bob Lane won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 28:
Mike Weissman won the Democratic primary with 53.4% against Idris Keith with 46.6%. 10,104 votes counted.
Pedro Espinoza won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 29:
Incumbent Janet Buckner won the Democratic primary unopposed.

For District 31:
Incumbent Chris Hansen won the Democratic primary unopposed.

The general election for these 18 seats in the Colorado State Senate will occur on Tuesday, November 5.
