The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in Colorado to select candidates for the November general election. That included the races for all 8 seats in the state’s delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives for regular two-year terms.
For the 118th Congress (which runs from January 2023 to January 2025), Colorado is served by 5 Democrats and 2 Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, with one vacancy. 6 incumbents ran for re-nomination today - with Doug Lamborn of the 5th District retiring and Lauren Boebert running for the 4th District instead of the 3rd. It only takes a plurality of the vote for a candidate to receive their party’s nomination.
For the 1st District:
Incumbent Diana DeGette won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Valdamar Archuleta won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 2nd District:
Incumbent Joe Neguse won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Marshall Dawson won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 3rd District:
Adam Frisch won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Jeffrey Hurd won the Republican primary with 41.3% against Ron Hanks with 28.5%, Stephen Varela with 9.7%, Lew Webb with 8.0%, Curtis McCrackin with 6.5%, and Russ Andrews with 6.0%. 87,765 votes counted.
For the 4th District:
Trisha Calvarese won the Democratic primary with 45.2% against Ike McCorkle with 41.1% and John Padora with 13.7%. 49,680 votes counted.
Lauren Boebert won the Republican primary with 43.6% against Jerry Sonnenberg with 14.3%, Deborah Flora with 13.6%, Richard Holtorf with 10.7%, Mike Lynch with 10.7%, and Peter Yu with 7.1%. 123,009 votes counted.
For the 5th District:
River Gassen currently leads the Democratic primary with 50.6% against Joe Reagan with 49.4%. 40,952 votes counted.
Jeff Crank won the Republican primary with 65.2% against Dave Williams with 34.8%. 86,538 votes counted.
For the 6th District:
Incumbent Jason Crow won the Democratic primary unopposed.
John Fabbricatore won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 7th District:
Incumbent Brittany Pettersen won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Sergei Matveyuk won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 8th District:
Incumbent Yadira Caraveo won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Gabe Evans won the Republican primary with 77.5% against Janak Joshi with 22.5%. 44,677 votes counted.
All 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives will be contested in the 2024 general election happening on Tuesday, November 5. The outcome will determine political control of the lower legislative chamber in the U.S. Congress.
