Former Trump Staffer Brian Jack Prevails in Republican Runoff for Open U.S. House Seat in Georgia
Voters finished selecting candidates for the U.S. House, State Senate and State House.
The Democratic and Republican runoffs occurred today in Georgia to complete the selection of candidates for the November general election. These runoffs were called after no candidate achieved a 50%+1 plurality during the May primaries. Instead, the top two finishers advanced to the runoffs.
The runoff rules applied to every state and federal seat held in Georgia. This year, the contests still left to be decided included 3 races in the U.S. House of Representatives, 4 races in the State Senate, and 4 races in the State House of Representatives.
For the U.S. House of Representatives:
In the 2nd District, Wayne Johnson won the Republican runoff with 65.7% against Chuck Hand with 34.3%. 11,909 votes counted.
In the 3rd District, Brian Jack won the Republican runoff with 62.6% against Mike Dugan with 37.4%. 47,333 votes counted.
In the 14th District, Shawn Harris won the Democratic runoff with 69.0% against Clarence Blalock with 31.0%. 10,450 votes counted.
For the State Senate:
In District 7, J. Gregory Howard won the Republican runoff with 61.6% against Fred Clayton with 38.4%. 2,187 votes counted.
In District 34, Kenya Wicks won the Democratic runoff with 65.8% against Valencia Stovall with 34.2%. 7,454 votes counted.
In District 38, Rashaun Kemp won the Democratic runoff with 59.7% against Ralph Long III with 40.3%. 4,034 votes counted.
In District 55, Randal Mangham won the Democratic runoff with 54.2% against Iris Knight-Hamilton with 45.8%. 9,128 votes counted.
For the State House:
In District 96, Arlene Beckles won the Democratic runoff with 65.2% against Sonia Lopez with 34.8%. 333 votes counted.
In District 131, Rob Clifton won the Republican runoff with 73.3% against Paul Abbott with 26.7%. 2,130 votes counted.
In District 145, Tangie Herring won the Democratic runoff with 57.6% against Juawn Jackson with 42.4%. 2,191 votes counted.
In District 180, incumbent Steven Sainz won the Republican runoff with 52.5% against Glenn Cook with 47.5%. 4,370 votes counted.
The general election for every state and federal race in Georgia will occur on Tuesday, November 5.
