Maine Republicans Select Candidates to Face Democratic Incumbents in U.S. House
Full results in the state's primaries for the U.S. Senate and House.
The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in Maine to select candidates for the November general election. That included the races for three seats in the state’s delegation to the U.S. Congress - one to the U.S. Senate and two to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Maine is served in the U.S. Senate by Republican Susan Collins and Independent Angus King. The latter’s seat is up this cycle. Meanwhile, the state sends two Democrats to the U.S. House of Representatives. Both of whom sought re-nomination this year. It only takes a plurality of the vote for a candidate to receive their party’s nomination.
For the U.S. Senate:
Independent incumbent Angus King once again collected the necessary signatures to appear on the general election ballot.
David Costello won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Demitroula Kouzounas won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 1st District to the U.S. House:
Incumbent Chellie Pingree won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Ronald Russell won the Republican primary with 55.9% against Andrew Piantidosi with 44.1%. 26,152 votes counted.
For the 2nd District to the U.S. House:
Incumbent Jared Golden won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Austin Theriault won the Republican primary with 66.3% against Mike Soboleski with 33.7%. 33,690 votes counted.
The general election for these federal races in Maine - in addition to the contests for the State Senate and State House - will occur on Tuesday, November 5.
