Kelly Armstrong Prevails in Republican Primary for Governor of North Dakota
Full results for eight statewide offices up this year.
The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in North Dakota to select candidates for the November general election. That included eight races for statewide office - six executive positions and two federal seats in the U.S. Congress.
It only takes a plurality of the vote in the primary for a candidate to receive their party’s nomination. Incumbents sought re-nomination in six of these statewide contests - with open seat primaries for Governor and the sole seat in the state’s delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives.
For the U.S. Senate:
Katrina Christiansen won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Kevin Cramer won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the At-Large District to the U.S. House:
Trygve Hammer won the Democratic primary with 73.6% against Roland Riemers with 26.4%. 18,963 votes counted.
Julie Fedorchak won the Republican primary with 46.0% against Rick Becker with 29.6%, Cara Mund with 19.6%, Alex Balazs with 4.0%, and Sharlet Mohr with 0.8%. 93,804 votes counted.
For Governor:
Merrill Piepkorn won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Kelly Armstrong won the Republican primary with 73.2% against Tammy Miller with 26.8%. 92,491 votes counted.
For Auditor:
Timothy Lamb won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Josh Gallion won the Republican primary unopposed.
For Treasurer:
No candidates qualified for the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Thomas Beadle won the Republican primary unopposed.
For Superintendent of Public Instruction:
Incumbent Kirsten Baesler and Jason Heitkamp will advance in the nonpartisan primary with 55.0% and 22.2% against Jim Bartlett with 19.7% and Darko Draganic with 3.1%. 106,768 votes counted.
For Public Service Commission:
Tracey Wilkie won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Randel Christmann won the Republican primary unopposed.
For Insurance Commissioner:
No candidates qualified for the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Jon Godfread won the Republican primary unopposed.
The general election for these eight statewide races in North Dakota - in addition to the contests for the State Senate and State House - will occur on Tuesday, November 5.
