The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in Pennsylvania to select candidates for the November general election. That included the races for all 17 seats in the state’s delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives for regular two-year terms.
For the 118th Congress (which runs from January 2023 to January 2025), Pennsylvania is served by 9 Democrats and 8 Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives. All 17 incumbents ran for re-nomination today. In Pennsylvania, it only takes a plurality of the vote in the primary for a candidate to receive their party’s nomination.
For the 1st District:
Ashley Ehasz won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick won the Republican primary with 61.5% against Mark Houck with 38.5%. 72,892 votes counted.
For the 2nd District:
Incumbent Brendan Boyle won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Aaron Bashir won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 3rd District:
Incumbent Dwight Evans won the Democratic primary with 87.7% against Tracey Gordon with 12.3%. 106,259 votes counted.
No candidate qualified for the Republican primary.
For the 4th District:
Incumbent Madeleine Dean won the Democratic primary unopposed.
David Winkler won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 5th District:
Incumbent Mary Gay Scanlon won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Alfeia DeVaughn-Goodwin won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 6th District:
Incumbent Chrissy Houlahan won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Neil Young Jr. won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 7th District:
Incumbent Susan Wild won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Ryan Mackenzie won the Republican primary with 42.3% against Kevin Dellicker with 34.1% and Maria Montero with 23.6%. 56,346 votes counted.
For the 8th District:
Incumbent Matt Cartwright won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Rob Bresnahan Jr. won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 9th District:
Amanda Waldman won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Dan Meuser won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 10th District:
Janelle Stelson won the Democratic primary with 43.9% against Mike O’Brien with 23.3%, Shamaine Daniels with 14.5%, Rick Coplen with 9.0%, Blake Lynch with 5.6%, and John Broadhurst with 3.8%. 60,427 votes counted.
Incumbent Scott Perry won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 11th District:
Jim Atkinson won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Lloyd Smucker won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 12th District:
Incumbent Summer Lee won the Democratic primary with 60.6% against Bhavini Patel with 39.4%. 105,888 votes counted.
James Hayes won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 13th District:
Beth Farnham won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent John Joyce won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 14th District:
Chris Dziados won the Democratic primary with 51.8% against Ken Bach with 48.2%. 56,381 votes counted.
Incumbent Guy Reschenthaler won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 15th District:
Zacheray Womer won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Glenn Thompson won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 16th District:
Preston Nouri won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Mike Kelly won the Republican primary unopposed.
For the 17th District:
Incumbent Chris Deluzio won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Rob Mercuri won the Republican primary unopposed.
All 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives will be contested in the 2024 general election happening on Tuesday, November 5. The outcome will determine political control of the lower legislative chamber in the U.S. Congress.
