2024 South Carolina State Senate Primary Results
All 46 seats of the state's upper legislative chamber are up this year.
The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in South Carolina to select candidates for the November general election. That included the races for all 46 seats in the State Senate for regular four-year terms.
The South Carolina State Senate currently features 30 Republicans, 15 Democrats and 1 Independent. 41 incumbents ran for re-nomination today - with open seat contests in Districts 6, 12, 20, 22, and 35. A candidate needs to achieve a 50%+1 majority in the primary to receive their party’s nomination. Otherwise, the top two finishers will advance to a June 25 runoff.

Incumbent Billy Garrett and Charles Bumgardner will advance to a runoff in the Republican primary with 41.1% and 23.1% against Troy Simpson with 19.4% and Taylor Bell with 16.5%. 12,864 votes counted.

Angela Geter won the Democratic primary with 72.1% against Sevi Alvarez with 27.9%. 1,475 votes counted.
