Utah Governor Spencer Cox Fends Off Far-Right Challenger for Re-Nomination
Full results in the state's primaries for Governor, Attorney General, Auditor and Treasurer.
The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in Utah to select candidates for the November general election. That included four races for statewide executive offices.
It only takes a plurality of the vote in the primary for a candidate to receive their party’s nomination. Incumbents sought re-nomination in two of these statewide contests - with open seat primaries for Attorney General and Auditor.
For Governor:
Brian King won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Spencer Cox won the Republican primary with 54.6% against Phil Lyman with 45.4%. 420,393 votes counted.
For Attorney General:
Rudy Bautista won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Derek Brown won the Republican primary with 43.6% against Rachel Terry with 32.6% and Frank Mylar with 23.8%. 402,649 votes counted.
For Auditor:
Catherine Voutaz won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Tina Cannon won the Republican primary with 57.0% against Ricky Hatch with 43.0%. 391,726 votes counted.
For Treasurer:
Neil Hansen won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Incumbent Marlo Oaks won the Republican primary unopposed.
The general election for these four statewide races in Utah - in addition to the contests for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, State Senate and State House - will occur on Tuesday, November 5.
