HULU’s ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING

• David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan, Jodie Whittaker, Jim Broadbent, Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis and Kathryn Hunter are the latest cast additions to the comedy’s upcoming sixth season. As with the previous casting announcements, no details were immediately announced about the characters they will be playing.

• Both Tennant and Whittaker portrayed The Doctor in BBC One’s Doctor Who - with Tennant as the Tenth Doctor for three seasons and Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor for three seasons. They also worked together for three seasons in ITV’s Broadchurch. Coughlan currently stars in Netflix’s Bridgerton, which has been renewed for its fifth and sixth seasons. Broadbent won an Academy Award in 2002 for his role in the film Iris. Ayoade currently stars in the voice cast of FOX’s Krapopolis, which has been renewed for its fourth and fifth seasons. Lukis recurred on Netflix’s Feel Good and BBC One’s The War Between the Land and the Sea. Hunter recurred on Disney+’s Andor, FX’s Grotesquerie and Netflix’s Black Doves.

PEACOCK’s TWISTED METAL

• Mark Hamill has booked a recurring role on the action comedy’s upcoming third season. He is best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise. He has also been a notable voice actor on Batman: The Animated Series, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Regular Show.

• He will play Pope Charlie Kane, the leader of the Eastern Sovereignty and Sweet Tooth’s (Joe Seanoa/Will Arnett) estranged father.

PRIME VIDEO’s SEX CRIMINALS

• Pamela Adlon and BD Wong have joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Imogen Poots and John Reynolds. Adlon created and starred in FX’s Better Things, which ran for five seasons. Wong starred for nine seasons in NBC’s Law & Order: SVU and two seasons in USA’s Mr. Robot.

• Adlon will play Bev, Suze’s (Poots) mother.

• Wong will play Oliver, a bank manager with a connection to Bev and Suze.

HULU’s CONVICTION

• Linda Emond, Zainab Jah, Ashley Zukerman and Jose Zúñiga have been cast on the upcoming drama starring Elisabeth Moss. Emond previously starred for two seasons in AMC’s Lodge 49 and in the FX limited series The Patient. Jah recurred on Showtime’s Homeland and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. Zukerman recurred on HBO’s Succession and stars in the upcoming third season of Apple TV’s Silo. Zúñiga recurred on Netflix’s Griselda and Apple TV’s The Last Thing He Told Me.

• No details were immediately announced about the characters they will be playing. Emond will be a series regular, while Jah, Zukerman and Zúñiga will appear as recurring guest stars.

HBO’s HARRY POTTER

• Peter Serafinowicz has landed a recurring role on the upcoming drama based on the novels of the same name. He previously starred for two seasons in Prime Video’s The Tick and in the Sing film franchise.

• He will play Peeves the Poltergeist, a cheeky ghost known for causing trouble in the Hogwarts halls.

Netflix has today renewed its original comedy series The Four Seasons for a third season. The comedy will return with eight new episodes.

The comedy stars Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, Erika Henningsen and Colman Domingo.

Fey co-created the comedy with Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield inspired by the film of the same name. All three executive produce with David Miner, Eric Gurian and Jeff Richmond. Universal Television, Little Stranger Inc., 3 Arts Entertainment, Original Langster and Big Wig Productions produce.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring a third season of The Four Seasons to life,” said Fey, Fisher and Wigfield. “Thank you to everyone who watched. Middle-aged people, LFG!”

Netflix is following HBO Max and Prime Video into the hockey romance genre. Following the successes of Heated Rivalry and Off Campus, Netflix has today picked up a series adaptation of Hannah Grace’s novel Icebreaker. An episode count and premiere date window were not immediately announced.

The drama will follow Anastasia Allen, a competitive figure skater with her eyes on Olympic gold. Everything changes when she is forced to share the rink with Nate Hawkins, a hockey player who’s equally determined to go pro. Despite the cold temperatures on the ice, the heat between Anastasia and Nate is undeniable. Is ambition or attraction the sharper blade?

Jade Bartlett developed the drama, with Amanda Lasher set as showrunner on the first season. They will executive produce with Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan and Meena Lefevre. Unwell Productions will produce.

“I have been a fan of steamy YA since the 7th grade; reading Judy Blume stealthily hidden behind a text book,” said Lasher. “I love this genre, and it’s been a joy working with Jade, the team at Unwell and Netflix to bring Hannah Grace’s beloved Icebreaker novel to the screen.”

“It’s been such a joy to play in Hannah Grace’s world of Icebreaker; a story filled with ambitious, talented, and undeniably sexy characters,” added Bartlett. “But the real special sauce is that, above all, they are good, deeply compassionate people... and we cannot get enough of them. The U.S. Senate today held a recorded vote to confirm one individual as an Article III federal judge. With this confirmation, 277 judges nominated by President Donald Trump have now been confirmed by the Senate across his two terms in office. With today’s action, 61 of Trump’s judicial nominees have been approved for service on federal appellate courts.

In a 48-43 vote, Justin D. Smith was confirmed as a Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He becomes Trump’s fifth confirmation to the 11-person court, with one pending vacancy where the President has already announced his nominee. Once commissioned, Smith will become the youngest judge serving on this court.

48 Republicans approved Smith’s nomination. Republican Lisa Murkowski of Alaska joined 42 Democrats in opposition. Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), John Curtis (R-UT), Angus King (I-ME), Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Raphael Warnock (D-GA) did not vote.

Smith will assume the Kansas City, Missouri-based seat currently held by Duane Benton, who intends to take senior status now that his successor has been confirmed. A nominee of President George W. Bush, Benton began serving on this court in July 2004. Smith was nominated to this seat on the federal judiciary by Trump in March 2026.

A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law in 2010, Smith was an associate at Shook, Hardy & Bacon in Kansas City from 2010 to 2016. He then served as Deputy Counsel to Missouri Governor Eric Greitens. After Greitens resigned from office, Smith became General Counsel at the Missouri Department of Agriculture from 2018 to 2019. He then joined the Attorney’s General Office - becoming Chief of Staff to Eric Schmitt from 2020 to 2023. Since 2023, he has practiced at the James Otis Law Group in St. Louis.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit covers appellate jurisdiction over the U.S. district courts in Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

The nominations for The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, July 8. The winners will be awarded in a ceremony broadcast on NBC on Monday, September 14.

Kamil Majchrzak of Poland, 30, defeated Alex de Minaur of Australia, 27, to win the Men’s Singles title at the 2026 Rosmalen Championships in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands (an ATP 250 event). The score in the final was 6-3, 2-6, and 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) in favor of Majchrzak.

This was the third match de Minaur and Majchrzak have played against each other on the ATP Tour - with de Minaur winning both of their prior meetings. Today’s victory was the first title Majchrzak has won on the 2026 ATP Tour and the first title of his career in singles competition. Notably, he becomes the fifth player to win their first ATP title during the 2026 season - following Tomás Martín Etcheverry, Rafael Jódar, Mariano Navone and Ignacio Buse. His maiden title came from a grass court event at the 250-level. Moreover, he becomes the first player representing Poland to win the title in ’s-Hertogenbosch since the event joined the tour in 1990.

Heading into this tournament, de Minaur was ranked as the Number 6 tennis player on the 2026 ATP Tour, while Majchrzak carried the Number 76 designation. By winning in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Majchrzak has received 250 points in the overall rankings. Meanwhile, de Minaur has picked up 165 points.

Gabriel Diallo of Canada (No. 54) was the tournament’s reigning champion. This year as an unseeded player, he lost in the first round against Adrian Mannarino of France (No. 46). Furthermore, de Minaur was the event’s second seed while Majchrzak was an unseeded player. The top four seeds received byes into the second round of competition.

Majchrzak arrived in the final after winning against wildcard Otto Virtanen of Finland (No. 158), qualifier James McCabe of Australia (No. 233), first seed Félix Auger-Aliassime of Canada (No. 4), and third seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia (No. 8). This was the first ATP final he has ever competed in.

In the other half of the main draw, de Minaur defeated qualifier Martin Damm Jr. of the United States (No. 114), qualifier Benjamin Bonzi of France (No. 99), and Mannarino. This was the 21st ATP final he has contested and his 11th at a 250-level event. He previously won the Rosmalen title in 2024.

The revised rankings for the 2026 ATP Tour will be officially released on Monday, June 15. The tour will next play two tournaments from June 15-21: the Halle Open in Halle, Germany (an ATP 500 event) and the Queen’s Club Championships in London, United Kingdom (an ATP 500 event). Both competitions will be played on grass courts.

Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan (No. 11) is the reigning champion at the Halle Open. He is looking to defend the title as the seventh seed at this year’s event. In the first round, he will play against a currently unspecified qualifier. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain (No. 2) is the reigning champion at the Queen’s Club Championship. He is currently off the tour recovering from a wrist injury.

And finally, both de Minaur and Majchrzak will be competing at the Queen’s Club Championship. De Minaur will be the first seed while Majchrzak has received a special exempt entry into the main draw. In the first round, de Minaur will face off against Diallo while Majchrzak will battle second seed Jiří Lehečka of the Czech Republic (No. 12).

Donna Vekić of Croatia, 29, defeated Emma Raducanu of the United Kingdom, 23, to win the Women’s Singles title at the 2026 Queen’s Club Championships in London, United Kingdom (a WTA 500 event). The score in the final was 6-0 and 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker) in favor of Vekić.

This was the first match Raducanu and Vekić have ever played against each other on the WTA Tour. Today’s victory was the first title Vekić has won on the 2026 WTA Tour and the fifth title of her career in singles competition. Notably, this was the first title she has claimed since prevailing at the Monterrey Open in March 2023! This was the second title she has taken from a grass court event and her first from a 500-level tournament - making this the biggest victory of her career. And finally, she becomes the first player representing Croatia to win the title in London since the event returned to the tour in 2025.

Heading into this tournament, Raducanu was ranked as the Number 42 tennis player on the 2026 WTA Tour, while Vekić carried the Number 76 designation. By winning in London, Vekić has received 500 points in the overall rankings. Meanwhile, Raducanu has picked up 325 points.

Tatjana Maria of Germany (No. 52) was the tournament’s reigning champion. As a qualifier at this year’s event, she lost in the second round against first seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan (No. 2). Furthermore, Raducanu was an unseeded player while Vekić entered as a lucky loser from the qualifying competition.

In the qualifying round, Vekić defeated Carole Monnet of France (No. 191) but lost against Anna Blinkova of Russia (No. 105). Upon receiving a lucky loser spot in the main draw, she prevailed against wildcard Mika Stojsavljevic of the United Kingdom (No. 261), Marie Bouzková of the Czech Republic (No. 28), Karolína Plíšková of the Czech Republic (No. 106, protected ranking), and wildcard Katie Boulter of the United Kingdom (No. 73). This was the 15th WTA final she has competed in and her fifth at a 500-level event. She has become the seventh lucky loser to win a title in WTA history and the first to do so since Sara Sorribes Tormo at the Tennis in the Land in August 2023.

Raducanu arrived in the final after winning against qualifier Anna Blinkova of Russia (No. 105), seventh seed Sorana Cîrstea of Romania (No. 18), lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova of Uzbekistan (No. 78), and sixth seed Iva Jovic of the United States (No. 19). This was the third WTA final she has contested and her first at a 500-level event.

The revised rankings for the 2026 WTA Tour will be officially released on Monday, June 15. The tour will next play two tournaments from June 14-21: the German Open in Berlin, Germany (a WTA 500 event) and the Nottingham Open in Nottingham, United Kingdom (a WTA 250 event). Both competitions will be played on grass courts.

Markéta Vondroušová of the Czech Republic (No. 48) is the reigning champion at the German Open. She has decided not to participate in any event this week. Elsewhere, McCartney Kessler of the United States (No. 39) is the reigning champion at the Nottingham Open. She will be looking to defend the title as the eighth seed at this year’s event. In the first round, she will face off against a currently unspecified qualifier.

Moreover, Vekić has received a special exempt entry into the German Open. In the first round, she will battle wildcard Alexandra Eala of the Philippines (No. 33). And finally, Raducanu has picked up a wildcard slot at the Nottingham Open. This morning saw her become the event’s tenth seed following the withdrawal of Jovic. As such, she will now face off against Plíšková in the first round.

In the all-American final, Ben Shelton, 23, defeated defending champion Taylor Fritz, 28, to win the Men’s Singles title at the 2026 Stuttgart Open in Stuttgart, Germany (an ATP 250 event). The score in the final was 6-4, 2-6, and 6-4 in favor of Shelton.

This was the fourth match Fritz and Shelton have played against each other on the ATP Tour - with Shelton leading 2-1 in their prior head-to-head. This was also the second final they’ve faced off in during the 2026 season. At the Dallas Open in February, Shelton prevailed 3-6, 6-3, and 7-5 against Fritz as well.

Today’s victory was the third title Shelton has won on the 2026 ATP Tour and the sixth title of his career in singles competition. Notably, this was the first title he has claimed from a grass court event and his second from a 250-level tournament. Impressively, he has won one title on each court surface during the 2026 season - becoming the first player to do so. Moreover, he becomes the fifth player representing the United States to win the title in Stuttgart during the Open Era - following Vitas Gerulaitis in 1980, Andre Agassi in 1988, Frances Tiafoe in 2023, and Fritz in 2025.

Heading into this tournament, Shelton was ranked as the Number 5 tennis player on the 2026 ATP Tour, while Fritz carried the Number 9 designation. By winning in Stuttgart, Shelton has received 250 points in the overall rankings. Meanwhile, Fritz has picked up 165 points.

Shelton and Fritz were the first and second seeds, respectively, at this year’s event in Stuttgart. The top four seeds received byes into the second round of competition.

Shelton arrived in the final after winning against Marcos Giron of the United States (No. 88), qualifier Sho Shimabukuro of Japan (No. 104), and fourth seed Jiří Lehečka of the Czech Republic (No. 12). This was the eighth ATP final he has competed in and his second at a 250-level event.

In the other half of the main draw, Fritz defeated Martín Landaluce of Spain (No. 58), Mattia Bellucci of Italy (No. 78), and third seed Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan (No. 11). This was the 21st ATP final he has contested and his 14th at a 250-level event.

Robin Montgomery of the United States, 21, was awarded the Women’s Singles title at the 2026 Rosmalen Championships in Rosmalen, Netherlands (a WTA 250 event) after Barbora Krejčíková of the Czech Republic, 30, withdrew due to illness.

In a statement, Krejčíková said, "I'm sorry to announce that I have to withdraw from today's Libéma Open final due to illness. I have been felling unwell and after consulting with the medical team it has become clear that I am not in a condition to compete today. I was really looking forward to the opportunity to play in the final and compete for a title, but today it's not possible. I would like to thank the tournament organisers, volunteers, sponsors, and the incredible fans in ‘s-Hertogenbosch for their support throughout the week. I have enjoyed my time at the Libéma Open and am grateful for the warm welcome I have received. I would also like to congratulate Robin for a great week here and wish her the very best for the rest of the season. This marks the first title Montgomery has won on the 2026 WTA Tour and the first title of her career in singles competition. She becomes the fourth player to win her first WTA title during the 2026 season - joining Sára Bejlek, Cristina Bucșa and Petra Marčinko. Her maiden title came from a grass court event at the 250-level. Moreover, she becomes the third player representing the United States to win the title in Rosmalen since the event joined the tour in 1996 - following CoCo Vandeweghe in 2014 & 2016 and Alison Riske in 2019. This was the first Rosmalen final to end with a walkover.

Heading into this tournament, Krejčíková was ranked as the Number 45 tennis player on the 2026 WTA Tour, while Montgomery carried the Number 484 designation. By winning in Rosmalen, Montgomery has received 250 points in the overall rankings. She becomes the fifth-lowest ranked player to win a title on the WTA Tour and the lowest-ranked player to do so at a grass court event. Meanwhile, Krejčíková has picked up 163 points.

Elise Mertens of Belgium (No. 22) was the tournament’s reigning champion. As the third seed at this year’s event, she lost in the second round against Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania (No. 88) in a rematch of last year’s final. Furthermore, Krejčíková was the eighth seed while Montgomery entered the main draw after first prevailing in the qualifying competition.

In the qualifying round, Montgomery defeated Yuan Yue of China (No. 112) and Joanna Garland of Taiwan (No. 186). Then in the main draw, she prevailed against Daria Kasatkina of Australia (No. 66), qualifier Greet Minnen of Belgium (No. 202), Daria Snigur of Ukraine (No. 84), and Ajla Tomljanović of Australia (No. 109). This was the first WTA final she has ever competed in.

Meanwhile, Krejčíková arrived in the final after winning against Renata Zarazúa of Mexico (No. 77), qualifier Hanne Vandewinkel of Belgium (No. 97), Ruse, and Magda Linette of Poland (No. 60). This was the 14th WTA final she has contested and her sixth at a 250-level event. Before withdrawing, she won every set she played this week.

The revised rankings for the 2026 WTA Tour will be officially released on Monday, June 15. The tour will next play two tournaments from June 14-21: the German Open in Berlin, Germany (a WTA 500 event) and the Nottingham Open in Nottingham, United Kingdom (a WTA 250 event). Both competitions will be played on grass courts.

Markéta Vondroušová of the Czech Republic (No. 48) is the reigning champion at the German Open. She has decided not to participate in any event this week. Elsewhere, McCartney Kessler of the United States (No. 39) is the reigning champion at the Nottingham Open. She will be looking to defend the title as the eighth seed at this year’s event. In the first round, she will face off against a currently unspecified qualifier.

Krejčíková was originally scheduled to compete as an unseeded player at the Nottingham Open. She has withdrawn from that competition as well. And finally, Montgomery will not be playing anywhere this week.

Runoffs occurred today in Texas. Voters in the Lone Star State returned to the ballot box to finish the mayoral elections in Denton, Frisco, New Braunfels, and Tyler. Each of these cities have populations exceeding 100,000. Each jurisdiction varies in how long the mayor serves in office. The term length is detailed below as well.

Mayoral elections in Texas are officially nonpartisan. All candidates compete on the same ballot with no partisan identification. A candidate had to achieve a 50%+1 majority to win in the first round. Those results can be found here. Runoffs were required today between the top two finishers in races where no one obtained a majority of the vote.

Mayors (Nonpartisan):

• In Denton (two-year term), former Mayor Chris Watts leads with 50.15% (7,738) against City Councilmember Brian Beck with 49.85% (7,691). 15,429 votes counted.

• In Frisco (three-year term), City ISD member Mark Hill won with 58.1% (19,632) against former Planning & Zoning Commissioner Rod Vilhauer with 41.9% (14,146). 33,778 votes counted.

• In New Braunfels (three-year term), former White House staffer (and 2023 mayoral runner-up) Michael French won with 62.4% (6,135) against incumbent Neal Linnartz with 37.6% (3,696). 9,831 votes counted.

• In Tyler (two-year term, City Councilmember Stuart Hene won with 57.4% (5,170) against former City Councilmember John Nix with 42.6% (3,833). 9,003 votes counted.

• Theo Rossi has landed a recurring role on the upcoming drama starring Benji Santiago, Juan Castano and Demián Bichir. He previously starred for seven seasons in FX’s Sons of Anarchy, two seasons in Netflix’s Luke Cage, and in the Netflix limited series True Story. He also recurred on HBO’s The Penguin.

• No details were immediately announced about the character he will be playing.

HULU’s CONVICTION

Episode 2.103

Joey recognizes the Impaler. That’s good because the audience sure doesn’t. We were asked to participate in this mystery. Instead, the show uses the reveal to introduce a new character. It doesn’t allow an existing character to be seen in a new light. Joey has mentioned his sister before. It was only a month ago when he told Vanessa he hasn’t seen Heather in a long time. He wanted a meeting with the Impaler to get him out of his territory. He wasn’t looking to form a partnership. Heather is in complete agreement. She’s done operating in the DMV. As such, the show creates a new reason for the Impaler to still be involved with the characters in the area. Joey doesn’t know why Heather makes her presence known now. A meeting wasn’t required as both businesses were in agreement. Heather came prepared. She knew all about Joey’s life. Meanwhile, he’s genuinely surprised. At first, he believes she is merely an associate of the Impaler’s. The audience understands her importance before he does. He laughs. Then, he accepts it. He must keep his guard up even with family. He’s grateful to finally hug his sister again. He’s missed her. She didn’t escape to a boring, normal life though. She’s in the same business as the rest of the family.

Vanessa invites Dani over to Joey’s place to keep her company during this meeting. She’s vague with the details on purpose. She wants a friend. She doesn’t want any pushback to how she’s feeling. Nicole would act like a shrink in this situation. Dani offers no judgment. She still forces Vanessa to consider things. Vanessa doesn’t like that. Whenever she’s confronted with something she doesn’t like, she changes the conversation or asks her friend to leave. She isn’t seeking to be challenged. She’s happy and wants everyone to respect that. Dani wonders if this is a life Vanessa can invite her loved ones into. Joey doesn’t have any friends. He’s always on guard. Security is protecting him 24/7. Vanessa is comfortable with that. She also needed his approval for Dani to be with her. She didn’t even realize that. Joey had to give his permission. That’s the control he exerts over her life. If she wanted to welcome Donnell or Deanna in, that would be inviting them into the danger as well. That runs the risk of creating distance. She’s happy to engage in this risk. It comes at the expense of so much. She has never fully reckoned with that. She’s not prepared to do so now either. That’s intriguing. It’s not the same conservation playing out in a different way. The conversation between Ted and Andre is boring. Meanwhile, Leslie’s scheming is nothing significant. That creates a boring episode even with the big reveal of the Impaler.

Grade: C+

Episode 2.104

Martin’s fundraiser comes a day before the primary. All of this will be for naught if he doesn’t win. He worries it comes across as desperate. He needs attention. So, he invites several splashy guests to support him publicly. Vernon and Smitty assure him it’s a symbol of strength. It’s a display of his worth. People are coming out because of the work he has done during his first term in Congress. Of course, the story really isn’t about the election. His primary challenger has gone unnamed. Martin suggests his polls have stagnated. He’s the only one worried. The focus of this story is entirely on the fundraiser. The show invites multiple guests from The Young and the Restless. It starts with the arrival of Victor Newman. Vernon and Anita warmly greet him. Meanwhile, he’s introduced to Martin for the first time. Vernon arranges all of this. He’s trying to build a legacy. Martin is continuing his work. Vernon’s proud of that. He knows Martin can deliver. He knows it would be foolish for anyone to reveal Martin’s secret. The damage couldn’t be contained. No one can plan for the fallout. It’s better to operate with confidence. There are already plenty of warning signs. A storm is coming. Uninvited guests plan on crashing. Jacob and Eva know Joey and Leslie are scheming but haven’t alerted Martin. That’s at least understandable with Jacob given his trauma.

Being undercover changed Jacob. He will now do whatever it takes to arrest the Impaler. It’s the only way for him to feel good about himself. Elon is proud of his son. He also sees how this job has compromised him. He wanted all of his sons to follow in his footsteps. He aimed to protect them on the job too. Jacob was eager to prove himself. He needed to accomplish this mission on his own. But now, Elon is worried Jacob will cross the line. He’s given a new lead on the Impaler. It’s not true. He goes to Joey with the information just to see how he responds. Joey is more forthcoming than usual. He chalks it up to Derek’s death making him invested in the case. He’s trying to get a handle on Heather’s sudden return. That’s forced him to question whether he has broken from his father’s grasp. He wonders if he has become just like him. He’s cruel and manipulative. He doesn’t care about the people caught in his world. Vanessa knows that isn’t true. She only sees the best in him. In this case, the audience may side with her. Joey questioning if he’s just like his father proves that he isn’t. What’s been communicated about him would suggest he would never ponder the consequences of his actions. That makes Joey’s behavior different. That can’t eliminate all the pain he has caused. That must remain at the forefront. He isn’t deserving of much empathy despite the Duprees wanting to trust and uplift people no matter what.

Grade: B-

Episode 2.105

The crossover between Beyond the Gates and The Young and the Restless has arrived. I’ve never seen any episode of YR. I may miss out on some details and nuance. However, the narrative seemingly enjoys pointing out the parallels between the lives of those in Fairmont Crest with these visitors from Genoa City. Victor had another reason for becoming the keynote speaker for Martin’s fundraiser. It was more than a favor to Vernon. He admired Martin and Smitty for adopting their children. It was inspiring to see someone from a position of power look out for the less fortunate. They opened a world of opportunities for Tyrell and Samantha. Victor understands that kind of abandonment. Meanwhile, Leslie admires how Diane Abbott overcame her scandalous past to become a respectable member of society. She wants tips for how to accomplish the same feat. Diane’s suggestion of true remorse probably isn’t what Leslie wants to hear. Devon has more sympathy for Leslie. He too didn’t know who his father was until he was an adult. He wants to include her in the remastering of the Articulettes’ songs despite Anita’s reservations. Elsewhere, Chelsea is ecstatic over Abby’s love of her purses. Chelsea always seeks inspiration from people around her. She aims to incorporate Abby’s suggestions to design a stylish purse for moms. And finally, it takes an outsider to finally flirt back with Hayley. She gets the attention she has wanted from Kyle and takes advantage of Bill working the event instead of spending time with her.

It’s clear the show wanted to incorporate many of its characters in this setting to create unexpected moments later on. That’s the only explanation for why Joey and Leslie are allowed to stay. A year ago, Nicole proclaimed she was the family fixer. When time came for her to act, she sought a compromise immediately. She expelled Vanessa and Joey to the lobby so they wouldn’t show up in any of the pictures. Vanessa choosing Joey should carry consequences. It should come at the expense of her other relationships. The Duprees are reluctant to cut her off because of her association with Joey. As such, that only welcomes more compromising situations. Everyone acts shocked when they happen too. No one is prepared for these moments of disaster. The response is simply to let them happen. Dani thought it would be good for Ashley to enjoy a night out. She tries to comfort her after Anastasia attacks. The sadness and grief continue to overwhelm. Hopefully, that will disappear now that disaster has struck. A tornado has made direct contact with the country club. It interrupted Martin’s speech. The story called out who’s separated and who’s together. The celebration was perfectly charming. But now, everything is about to become much more dire.

Grade: B

Episode 2.106

The tornado really highlights which characters I’m actually invested in. When their lives are threatened, it’s truly gripping. When the story cuts away from them, it’s actually quite tedious. It makes me upset over not spending more time with the people who have spent a year earning my admiration. Initially, Andre is pinned down. He appears to be seriously injured. Then, Ted’s treatment occurs offscreen. Andre quickly recovers and starts worrying about Dani. Now, Dani and Bill are a hoot in the elevator. They bring a sense of levity needed during this crisis. The narrative offers plenty of emotions. Dani and Bill are freaking out as well. They also see this as an opportunity to indulge in their attraction. Both Bill and Hayley are given the ability to cheat. Bill does so. Hayley is surprisingly honest with Kyle about being married. The attraction is there. She appreciates being noticed. Their lives aren’t in danger. They can wait it out in the closet. They are eventually rescued. Meanwhile, Bill and Dani start having sex once the emergency power finally kicks in. The biggest complaint of the episode is how poorly lit it is. It’s hard to see what’s going on. That’s especially glaring with Martin crushed under a tree. Those shots offer no clarity whatsoever. His life is in danger. The episode closes with Martin, Eva and Abby in peril.

It would certainly be surprising if one of the Genoa City guests perishes during their time in Fairmont Crest. Based on what I’ve been told, the story already features several continuity errors based on what’s currently happening on YR. Anything could happen I suppose. It’s an odd choice. The final beat could have been more dramatic if it was framed around Kat realizing Eva was seriously injured. Not much time is spent with them. That signaled something more was going on. The twist was obvious to everyone except Kat. She wants Eva to make a sarcastic comment. She wants to fight. That’s not what the situation has become. Kat doesn’t want her half-sister to die. That’s remarkable given all that she has said to Eva over the past year. That’s the shocking moment that provides depth. Leslie and Izaiah are worried too. However, the most fascination comes from Leslie confiding in Anita. It appears genuine even though Anita has no tolerance for Leslie’s foolishness. She’s not to blame for a tornado. She’s not that powerful. She shouldn’t be seen as such. That’s the power Anita wields even though some may want the Duprees to be even more influential and punish those who cross them. Their tolerance can appear as weak sometimes. In this situation though, Vernon provides the precise leadership needed to organize the response and guide everyone out of this danger.

Episode 2.107

The crossover finishes this week but the danger from the tornado extends into another. Joey pushed Abby out of the way from the falling chandelier. Jack believes he owes Joey a favor now. Martin and Smitty warn Jack about who Joey is. That invites future interactions between these characters across the two shows. However, the visitors from Genoa City are largely able to return home with no additional problems. They are shaken up but will be fine. Martin and Eva are the ones who need immediate medical attention. Colby Nixon has been a standout performer for a long time. She’s incredible as Kat’s desperate for the rescue team to get to Eva and relaying the trauma to Ted and Tomas. It’s a layered performance. She doesn’t want Eva to die. That’s not because she has any affection towards her. She cares about her family members who are invested. She wants to preserve their happiness. Leslie immediately blames Kat for what happened. It was completely random. Kat didn’t choose to have the pipe hit Eva. She responded with the appropriate amount of concern once she realized Eva was injured. She can’t go home yet either. She’s grateful her family is fine. She also needs an update on Eva. Her fate can’t be left unresolved. She’s not the only one headed to the hospital. Andre and Martin need to be seen as well. Andre’s reluctant. Martin’s situation requires urgency after he collapses. The extent of his injuries finally catch up to him.

Dani immediately feels guilty about sleeping with Bill in the elevator. It becomes even more stark once the doors open. They see the destruction that has hit their beloved country club. They were obviously worried about their family. They couldn’t do much when they were trapped. They conveniently concoct a cover story. Dani was in the elevator and Bill was in a stairwell. They were both alone. It’s meant to make them feel better about what they just did. It fails immediately. Hayley recognizes Bill’s lie. Meanwhile, Dani’s guilt is written all over her face upon hearing how much Andre was worried about her. He was willing to jeopardize his own health to search for her. He was freaking out and powerless to help. This experience made him realize just how deeply he loves Dani. Meanwhile, she was cheating on him. Dani and Bill weren’t caught. Anita sees Kyle and Hayley after they were rescued. She warns Kyle to stay away. She refers to Hayley as a viper. Nothing happened beyond a kiss. That’s enough of a scandalous suggestion though. This tornado will reshape the lives of those beyond the gates. No one could escape. Anita and Vernon are grateful for the grace under pressure they exhibited during this chaos. Their loves remains steadfast and strong. They acknowledge that even though they didn’t necessarily have to show compassion to Leslie. It was delightful when Nicole clapped back after all.

HULU’s ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING

• Martin Freeman, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Jamie Demetriou, Anjana Vasan, Jane Horrocks, Derek Jacobi and Lesley Nicol have landed recurring roles on the comedy’s upcoming sixth season. No details were immediately announced about their characters. The new season will see the story travel abroad to London.

• Freeman previously starred for four seasons in BBC One’s Sherlock, in the first season of FX’s Fargo, and four seasons in Sky One’s Breeders. Halliwell-Horner is a singer-songwriter who rose to fame as a member of Spice Girls. Demetriou starred in the first season of Apple TV’s The Afterparty and appears in the film The Moment. Vasan starred for two seasons in Peacock’s We Are Lady Parts and was cast yesterday in MGM+’s upcoming drama Legacy of Spies. Horrocks starred for five seasons in BBC One’s Absolutely Fabulous and seven seasons in Sky One’s Trollied. Jacobi starred for five seasons in BBC One’s Last Tango in Halifax and two seasons in ITV’s Vicious. Nicol starred for six seasons in ITV’s Downton Abbey and all three of its feature film follow-ups.

FOX’s BEST MEDICINE

• Stephen Spinella and Jason Veasey have been promoted to series regulars on the dramedy’s upcoming second season. Both heavily recurred on the first season - appearing in all 13 episodes.

• Spinella and Veasey plays husbands Greg Garrison and George Brady, respectively, co-proprietors of Port Wenn’s favorite eatery, The Salty Breeze. After escaping their chaotic New York City life 18 years ago, Greg and George moved to Port Wenn, Maine, where they know all the really good gossip, dabble in local real estate, and claim the distinction of having the best lobster rolls in all of Southeast Maine six years in a row.

PRIME VIDEO’s MR. & MRS. SMITH

• Levon Hawke has joined the cast of the drama’s upcoming second season. The son of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, he previously recurred on the Apple TV limited series The Crowded Room and appeared in the film Marty Supreme.

• No details were immediately announced about the character he will be playing.

AMC’s DARK WINDS

• John Hoogenakker is set as a new series regular on the drama’s upcoming fifth season. Meanwhile, Gregory Cruz will appear in a recurring role. Hoogenakker previously starred for two seasons in Prime Video’s Jack Ryan and in the Hulu limited series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. Cruz recurred on FX’s Mayans M.C., Showtime’s Dexter: New Blood and ABC’s Station 19.

• Hoogenakker will play Sheriff Mark Bishop, Gordo Sena’s (A Martinez) younger, more button-downed successor at the Scarborough County Sheriff’s Department. He allows Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) to join his investigation into Sena’s murder and quickly wades into jurisdictional conflicts with Leaphorn and his officers over who’s in charge.

• Cruz will play Ed Manuelito, Bernadette Manuelito’s (Jessica Matten) biological father. A World War II vet suffering PTSD upon his return from the war, he abandoned Bern after her mother’s untimely death, depositing her at boarding school. He attempts to come back into his daughter’s life fifteen years later, a better man after finding community and support through sobriety and church.

HBO’s THE LAST OF US

• Peter Sarsgaard has booked a recurring role on the drama’s upcoming third season. He previously received Emmy Award nominations for his performances in the Hulu limited series Dopesick and in the first season of Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent. He recently recurred on HBO’s DTF St. Louis and will next be seen in Apple TV’s upcoming drama Neuromancer.

• He will play Amon, one of the leaders of The Seraphites.

Apple TV has today renewed its original horror comedy series Widow’s Bay for a second season. The renewal comes ahead of the first season finale on Wednesday, June 17.

Matthew Rhys, Kate O’Flynn, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, Kingston Rumi Southwick and Stephen Root star in the series.

Katie Dippold created the series. She executive produces with Rhys, Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin and director Hiro Murai. Apple Studios, Spooky Tree Productions and Chum Films produce. Furthermore, the streamer has announced a new, multiyear overall deal with Dippold.

“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laugh and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew and the entire team have created,” said Matt Cherniss, Head of Programming, Apple TV. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”
