Cindy Myrex and Clint Hollingsworth Head to Republican Runoff for Alabama State House
The special election was called following the resignation of State Representative Corey Harbison (R).
The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in Alabama to select candidates for a vacancy in the State House of Representatives. One Democrat and four Republicans qualified for the primary ballot. A candidate needs to obtain a 50%+1 majority to receive their party’s nomination today. If not, the top two finishers will advance to a runoff on August 12, 2025.
The special election for Alabama State House District 12 was called after State Representative Corey Harbison, a Republican, resigned to focus on his family. He represented this district from November 2014 to April 2025. He was re-elected with an 85.3-14.5 victory against Democrat James Fields Jr. in November 2022.
Alabama State House District 12 resides entirely within Cullman County.
Cindy Myrex and Clint Hollingsworth will advance to a runoff in the Republican primary with 49.8% (2,129) and 43.2% (1,848) against Heather Doyle with 3.5% (150) and Dan McWhorter with 3.4% (147). 4,274 votes counted.
