2025 New Jersey General Assembly Primary Results
Democrats and Republicans selected their candidates for all 80 seats in the state's lower legislative chamber.
The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in New Jersey to select candidates for the General Assembly. All 80 seats in the lower legislative chamber are being contested this year. Meanwhile, one special election will be held for the State Senate. The general election for all of these races will occur on November 4, 2025.
For State Senate District 35 (Special Election):
Appointed incumbent Benjie Wimberly won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Frank Filippelli won the Republican primary unopposed.
The New Jersey General Assembly currently features 52 Democrats and 28 Republicans. All 40 legislative districts elect two members to the General Assembly and one member to the State Senate. As such, both parties can nominate two candidates for each district in the elections to the Assembly. 76 incumbents ran for re-nomination today - with open races in Districts 20, 32, 33, and 35.
For District 1:
Carolyn Rush and Carol Sabo won the Democratic primary with 41.5% (9,985) and 34.8% (8,381) against Brandon Saffold with 23.7% (5,709). 24,075 votes counted.
Incumbent Antwan McClellan and incumbent Erik Simonsen won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 2:
Maureen Rowan and Joanne Famularo won the Democratic primary with 28.8% (8,921) and 24.2% (7,501) against Bruce Weekes with 24.1% (7,465) and Lisa Bonanno with 22.8% (7,052). 30,939 votes counted.
Incumbent Don Guardian and Claire Swift won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 3:
Incumbent Dave Bailey Jr. and incumbent Heather Simmons won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Chris Konawell and Lawrence Moore won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 4:
Incumbent Cody Miller and incumbent Dan Hutchison won the Democratic primary with 31.2% (14,830) and 31.2% (14,821) against Vonetta Hawkins with 21.5% (10,218) and Brian Everett with 16.1% (7,640). 47,509 votes counted.
Amanda Esposito and Gerard McManus won the Republican primary with 37.8% (9,205) and 34.5% (8,387) against Barbara McCormick with 27.7% (6,738). 24,330 votes counted.
For District 5:
Incumbent William Moen Jr. and incumbent William Spearman won the Democratic primary unopposed.
Constance Ditzel and Nilsa Gonzalez won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 6:
Incumbent Melinda Kane and incumbent Louis Greenwald won the Democratic primary with 30.0% (17,425) and 29.2% (16,955) against Rebecca Holloway with 24.3% (14,147) and Kevin Ryan with 16.6% (9,646). 58,173 votes counted.
John Brangan and Peter Sykes won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 7:
Incumbent Carol Murphy and incumbent Balvir Singh won the Democratic primary with 46.1% (20,940) and 27.7% (12,586) against Eric Holliday with 26.2% (11,880). 45,406 votes counted.
Douglas Dillon and Dione Johnson won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 8:
Incumbent Andrea Katz and Anthony Angelozzi won the Democratic primary with 47.9% (16,681) and 33.4% (11,635) against Eddie Freeman III with 18.7% (6,516). 34,832 votes counted.
Incumbent Michael Torrissi Jr. and Brandon Umba won the Republican primary unopposed.
For District 9:
Lisa Bennett and Rosalee Keech won the Democratic primary with 40.1% (10,802) and 36.5% (9,812) against Donald Campbell with 23.4% (6,307). 26,921 votes counted.
