State Senator Sean Ryan Wins Democratic Nomination for Mayor of Buffalo, New York
Mayoral primaries also occurred today in Albany, Rochester, and Syracuse.
The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today across New York to select candidates for four mayoral offices. The results from Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse can be found below. The general elections for all of these races will occur on November 4, 2025.
Albany Mayor:
Chief City Auditor Dorcey Applyrs won the Democratic primary with 54.5% (5,954) against former tech executive Dan Cerutti with 28.8% (3,141), Albany Common Council President Corey Ellis with 9.6% (1,045), and Albany County Legislator Carolyn McLaughlin with 7.2% (781). 10,921 votes counted.
Businessman Rocco Pezzulo won the Republican primary unopposed.
Buffalo Mayor:
State Senator Sean Ryan won the Democratic primary with 46.5% (12,249) against Acting Mayor Christopher Scanlon with 35.3% (9,278), former Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield with 8.1% (2,136), Buffalo Common Councilor Rasheed Wyatt with 7.7% (2,023), and former legislative staffer Anthony Tyson-Thompson with 2.4% (632). 26,318 votes counted.
Former Erie County Assistant District Attorney James Gardner won the Republican primary unopposed.
Rochester Mayor:
Incumbent Mayor Malik Evans won the Democratic primary with 56.9% (7,589) against City Councilmember Mary Lupien with 33.2% (4,425) and tech executive Shashi Sinha with 9.9% (1,324). 13,338 votes counted.
Photographer and business owner Louis Sabo won the Republican primary unopposed.
Syracuse Mayor:
Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens won the Democratic primary with 62.4% (4,711) against Common Councilor Patrick Hogan with 22.8% (1,723) and Common Councilor Chol Majok with 14.8% (1,115). 7,549 votes counted.
Attorney Thomas Babilon won the Republican primary unopposed.
