Democrat Jason Lowe Secures Seat on Oklahoma County Commission
Oklahoma also held primaries for two vacancies in the State House and a runoff for a district in the State Senate.
Elections occurred today in Oklahoma for several legislative and county races. That included a special election for the Oklahoma County Commission, primaries for two vacancies in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, and a runoff for a vacancy in the Oklahoma State Senate.
In Oklahoma County, a special election was called in District 1 following the resignation of County Commissioner Carrie Blumert, a Democrat, to become CEO of Mental Health Association Oklahoma. She represented this district from January 2019 to September 2024.
District 1 covers the communities of Del City, Forest Park, Jones, Lake Aluma, Midwest City, Nicoma Park, Oklahoma City, Spencer, and The Village.
Oklahoma County Commission (2 Republicans, 1 Democrat):
For District 1, Democrat Jason Lowe won with 86.1% (5,657) against Independent Jed Green with 13.9% (915). 6,572 votes counted.
Lowe has served District 97 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives since November 2016. He was the chamber’s Minority Caucus Secretary from January 2019 to January 2023. A special election will now have to be scheduled to fill his forthcoming vacancy in the State House.
In the Oklahoma State Senate, a special election was called in District 8 following the resignation of State Senator Roger Thompson, a Republican. He represented this district from November 2014 to November 2024. The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred on March 4, 2025. A runoff between the top two candidates was ordered on the Republican side after no one achieved a 50%+1 majority.
State Senate District 8 covers Okmulgee, Okfuskee and McIntosh Counties in the eastern part of the state.
Oklahoma State Senate District 8 Republican Runoff:
Bryan Logan won with 55.6% (2,892) against David Nelson with 44.4% (2,313). 5,205 votes counted.
Logan is a pastor at Paden Pentecostal Holiness Church and operates a small custom carpentry business.
Logan will now advance to the special election on May 13, 2025 where he will face off against Democrat Nathan Brewer.
In the Oklahoma House of Representatives, two special elections were ordered after State Representatives Amanda Swope (D) and Mark Vancuren (R) accepted new jobs in the Tulsa city and county governments, respectively. Swope served District 71 from November 2022 to January 2025. Vancuren held District 74 from November 2018 to January 2025. In November 2024, Swope was re-elected unopposed while Vancuren prevailed 76.2-23.8 against Independent Aaron Brent.
In these primaries, a candidate must obtain a 50%+1 majority to receive their party’s nomination today. Otherwise, the top two finishers will advance to a runoff scheduled for May 13, 2025.
State House District 71 resides entirely within the city of Tulsa, covering Riverside Drive from downtown to just past 71st Street.

Atteberry sought the Republican nomination for District 71 in 2018 and 2020 but lost in the Republican runoff both times. Furthermore, Garza has worked as a member integration specialist at Tulsa Remote since October 2021.
