Ten Incumbents Ousted in Republican Primaries for South Dakota House of Representatives
All 70 seats in the South Dakota House of Representatives are up this year.

The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in South Dakota to select candidates for the November 2026 general election. This post covers the races for all 70 seats in the State House of Representatives. In the Mount Rushmore State, parties can nominate two candidates for each legislative district in the State House (with the exemption of Districts 26 and 28). Separate posts will be covering the primaries for federal and statewide executive offices, all 35 seats in the State Senate, and county contests.
The general election for all 70 seats in the South Dakota House of Representatives will be held on November 3, 2026.
District 1:
Navy veteran Courtney Enfield won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Nicholas Fosness and Day County Commissioner Daniel Kjos won the Republican primary with 29.6% (1,855) and 26.5% (1,664) against incumbent Logan Manhart with 22.3% (1,398) and business owner Keith Miller with 21.6% (1,355). 6,272 votes counted.
District 2:
Teacher Blake Rife won the Democratic primary.
Business owner Adam Long and engineer Manuel Luschas won the Republican primary with 32.6% (2,004) and 26.6% (1,634) against business executive Brandon Lane with 22.7% (1,394) and physician Dawn Hill with 18.2% (1,120). 6,152 votes counted.
District 3:
2024 nominee Erin Rudner won the Democratic primary.
Architect Spencer Sommers and business owner Tim Hanigan won the Republican primary with 32.2% (2,217) and 28.7% (1,980) against incumbent Al Novstrup with 23.2% (1,598) and former State Representative Kaleb Weis with 15.9% (1,095). 6,890 votes counted.
District 4:
Pastor Emelia Enquist won the Democratic primary.
Farmer Ryan Kohl and former State Representative Fred Deutsch won the Republican primary with 26.4% (2,385) and 25.7% (2,326) against incumbent Kent Roe with 24.9% (2,254), incumbent Dylan Jordan with 20.3% (1,837), and workforce development consultant Gary Hudiburgh with 2.6% (233). 9,035 votes counted.
District 5:
No candidate qualified for the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Matt Roby and former State Representative Byron Callies won the Republican primary.
District 6:
2024 nominee Garret Campbell and plumber Austin Wolf won the Democratic primary.
Sioux Falls traffic, light & power superintendent Jerry Jongeling and business owner Elliott Neff and won the Republican primary with 33.3% (1,413) and 32.7% (1,390) against business owner Ned Horsted with 17.4% (737) and incumbent Tim Czmowski with 16.6% (707). 4,247 votes counted.
District 7:
2024 nominee Blake Stevens won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Mellissa Heermann and incumbent Roger DeGroot won the Republican primary with 38.6% (1,683) and 38.5% (1,678) against chiropractor Dennis Willert with 22.9% (1,001). 4,362 votes counted.
District 8:
No candidate qualified for the Democratic primary.
Attorney Todd Wilkinson and former Lake Preston school board chair Jon Nelson won the Republican primary with 37.4% (2,657) and 22.6% (1,606) against attorney Danny Brown with 18.2% (1,293), architect Samuel Krueger with 11.0% (778), and former legislative staffer James Sapp with 10.8% (765). 7,099 votes counted.
District 9:
Marketing manager Amanda Potter won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Tesa Schwans and business owner Megan Tschetter won the Republican primary with 33.2% (1,541) and 26.9% (1,247) against healthcare executive Randy Bury with 21.9% (1,017) and loan officer Zach Mulder with 18.0% (836). 4,641 votes counted.
District 10:
Consultant Adam Bair and nurse Kathleen Brudvig won the Democratic primary.
Business executive John Pohlman and business owner Kimberly Petterson won the Republican primary with 34.9% (948) and 33.4% (908) against incumbent Bobbi Andera with 31.7% (862). 2,718 votes counted.
District 11:
2024 nominee Sonja Mentzer won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Keri Weems and incumbent Brian Mulder won the Republican primary with 38.4% (1,589) and 38.3% (1,582) against software engineer John Kunnari with 23.3% (963). 4,134 votes counted.
District 12:
Conservationist Stephanie Arne won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Amber Arlint and finance executive Kerry Loudenslager won the Republican primary.
District 13:
2024 state senate nominee Ali Horsted won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Jack Kolbeck and incumbent John Hughes won the Republican primary with 35.3% (2,237) and 33.4% (2,118) against nonprofit executive Nick Kotzea with 31.4% (1,991). 6,346 votes counted.
District 14:
Business owner Erinn Williams won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Taylor Rae Rehfeldt and former State Representative Tyler Tordsen won the Republican primary with 42.6% (2,457) and 29.1% (1,678) against incumbent Tony Kayser with 28.2% (1,626). 5,761 votes counted.
District 15:
Incumbent Kadyn Wittman and public safety official June CopperStad won the Democratic primary.
2022/24 nominee Joni Tschetter and data analyst Andre Zachariahs won the Republican primary.
District 16:
Principal Tim Rhead won the Democratic primary.
Farmer Lisa Bogue and incumbent John Shubeck won the Republican primary with 36.7% (2,273) and 32.0% (1,986) against farmer Jason VanDenTop with 31.3% (1,940). 6,199 votes counted.
District 17:
Computer technician Austin Brunick and business owner Leslie Gerrish won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Chris Kassin and pharmacist Troy Redler won the Republican primary with 60.2% (2,133) and 31.1% (1,106) against environmental director Robin Schiro with 8.7% (307). 3,546 votes counted.
District 18:
Yankton County party official Jarod Holcomb and Air Force veteran Karen Springer won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Mike Stevens and project manager John Marquardt won the Republican primary with 41.3% (2,256) and 31.5% (1,719) against Turkey Valley Township supervisor Michael Nutley with 27.2% (1,486). 5,461 votes counted.
District 19:
Customer service representative Heidi Hora won the Democratic primary.
Incumbent Jessica Bahmuller and incumbent Drew Peterson won the Republican primary with 44.5% (3,384) and 36.4% (2,765) against farmer Tanner Hento with 19.0% (1,447). 7,596 votes counted.
District 20:

Donor care supervisor Ken Jeakins won the Democratic primary.
South Dakota Right to Life associate director Dale Bartscher and business owner Jason Fleming won the Republican primary with 33.8% (1,241) and 32.8% (1,205) against Air Force veteran Jace West with 20.2% (744) and business development consultant Emmett Reistroffer with 13.2% (484). 3,674 votes counted.
