Tennessee Democrats Flip Seats on Hamilton, Montgomery & Rutherford County Commissions
The general election occurred today for positions in Davidson, Hamilton, Knox, Montgomery, Rutherford, Shelby, and Williamson Counties.
The general election occurred today in Tennessee for county offices. This post features the results in seven of the state’s most-populous counties: Davidson, Hamilton, Knox, Montgomery, Rutherford, Shelby, and Williamson. Primaries to determine the candidates appearing on today’s ballots were conducted in May. This post also includes the nonpartisan mayoral contest in Murfreesboro.
Meanwhile, primaries happened today for other offices in the Volunteer State. Separate posts will be covering those contests for federal and statewide executive races as well as both chambers of the state legislature. The general election for those positions will be held on November 3, 2026.
Hamilton County Board of Commissioners (7 Republicans, 5 Democrats):
For Mayor, Republican incumbent Weston Wamp won with 52.5% (33,840) against Democrat Mark Herndon with 47.5% (30,665). 64,505 votes counted.
For District 1, Republican incumbent Gene Shipley won with 75.8% (5,005) against Democrat Mona Petro with 24.2% (1,598). 6,603 votes counted.
For District 2, Republican incumbent Chip Baker won with 60.1% (4,518) against Democrat Amanda Sovago-Royal with 39.9% (2,994). 7,512 votes counted.
