Former Houston Officials Annise Parker and Letitia Plummer Go to Runoff for Harris County Judge
Primaries covered for 24 of the most populous counties in Texas detailed below.
The Democratic and Republican primaries occurred today in Texas to select candidates for the November 2026 general election. This post covers the races for county positions in 24 of the most populous counties in the Lone Star State. That includes Bell, Bexar, Brazoria, Brazos, Cameron, Collin, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Hays, Hidalgo, Jefferson, Lubbock, McLennan, Montgomery, Nueces, Smith, Tarrant, Travis, Webb, and Williamson Counties. Separate posts will be covering the primaries for federal offices, statewide executive races, and both chambers of the state legislature.
In Texas, a candidate needs to achieve a 50%+1 majority in the primary to receive their party’s nomination. If that doesn’t happen, then the top two finishers will advance to a runoff scheduled for May 26, 2026.
The general election for these county positions in Texas’ main population centers will be held on November 3, 2026.
