State Senator Rebecca Saldaña Tops Primary for King County Council
Washington conducted primaries in Clark, King, Kitsap, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane, Thurston, and Yakima Counties today.
The primaries occurred today in Washington to select candidates for the November 2026 general election. This post covers the races for county positions in eight of the state’s most-populous counties. That includes Clark, King, Kitsap, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane, Thurston, and Yakima Counties. Separate posts will be covering the primaries for federal races as well as both chambers of the state legislature.
In Washington, all candidates compete on the same ballot today. The top two finishers in the primary will then advance to the general election. A candidate can’t avoid the second round by obtaining a 50%+1 majority today. That’s true in the counties with or without partisan labels attached to candidates.
The general election for these county positions in Washington will be held on November 3, 2026.
Clark County Council (Nonpartisan):
District 1:
Incumbent Glen Yung and nonprofit founder Bryan Shull lead with 35.8% (6,346) and 28.7% (5,104) against farmer Dusti Arab with 25.5% (4,531) and business owner Lukas Bardue with 10.0% (1,771). 17,752 votes counted.
District 2:
Incumbent Michelle Belkot and teacher John Zingale lead with 50.1% (11,617) and 36.4% (8,450) against former state Health Department official Martin Pittioni with 13.5% (3,132). 23,199 votes counted.
District 5:
Former Battle Ground mayor Troy McCoy and engineering consultant Peter Silliman will advance.
Clark County Officials (Nonpartisan):
Assessor:
Incumbent Peter Van Nortwick and Tyler Thoune will advance.
Auditor:
Former County Councilmember Eileen Quiring O’Brien and Deputy County Auditor Mitchell Kelly lead with 29.1% (31,395) and 28.7% (31,005) against Vancouver city councilmember Ty Stober with 22.8% (24,610) and State Representative Sharon Wylie with 19.4% (20,895). 107,905 votes counted.
Clerk:
Incumbent Scott Weber and mediator Rachel Shapiro will advance with 54.0% (56,970) and 28.8% (30,426) against attorney Gerald Gray with 17.2% (18,091). 105,487 votes counted.
Prosecuting Attorney:
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Laurel Smith will advance.
Sheriff:
Incumbent John Horch will advance.
Treasurer:
Incumbent Alishia Topper will advance.
King County Council (Nonpartisan):
District 2:
State Senator Rebecca Saldaña and Port of Seattle commissioner Toshiko Hasegawa will advance with 53.1% (17,530) and 38.2% (12,589) against county employee Miriam Mboya with 8.7% (2,867). 32,986 votes counted.
District 4:
Incumbent Jorge Barón will advance.
District 6:
Incumbent Claudia Balducci will advance.
District 8:
Incumbent Teresa Mosqueda and businessman Nick Duda will advance with 64.2% (22,985) and 27.0% (9,668) against 2025 Seattle city council candidate Mia Jacobson with 8.8% (3,174). 35,827 votes counted.
King County Officials (Nonpartisan):

Hearing examiner Rob Foxcurran and business owner Dominique Scarimbolo lead with 44.0% (132,218) and 20.1% (60,288) against Shoreline city councilmember Chris Roberts with 19.6% (59,090) and Chief Deputy Assessor Al Dams with 16.3% (48,934). 300,530 votes counted.

District 5:
Democratic incumbent Bryan Yambe and Republican Bettina Gese will advance.
District 7:
Democrat Brenda Lykins and Republican Mike Solan will advance with 57.1% (22,011) and 29.2% (11,232) against Independent Chuck West with 11.6% (4,490) and Republican Ann Jolie with 2.1% (803). 38,536 votes counted.
Spokane County Board of Commissioners:
