2023 Winner Alexander Bublik Prevails Again at 2025 Halle Open
The Kazakhstani player won against Daniil Medvedev of Russia in the final.
Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan, 28, defeated Daniil Medvedev of Russia, 29, to win the Men’s Singles title at the 2025 Halle Open in Halle, Germany (an ATP 500 event). The score in the final was 6-3 and 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker) in favor of Bublik.
This was the seventh match Bublik and Medvedev have played against each other on the ATP Tour - with Medvedev winning all of their prior meetings. Today’s victory was the first title Bublik has won on the 2025 ATP Tour and the fifth title of his career in single’s competition. Notably, this was the first title he has claimed since prevailing at the Open Sud de France for the second time in February 2024. Moreover, this was the second title he has taken from a grass court event and his second from a 500-level tournament. And finally, he remains the only player representing Kazakhstan to win the title in Halle since the event joined the tour in 1993. He previously won here in 2023.
Heading into this tournament, Medvedev was ranked as the Number 11 tennis player on the 2025 ATP Tour, while Bublik carried the Number 45 designation. By winning in Halle, Bublik has received 500 points in the overall rankings. Meanwhile, Medvedev has picked up 330 points.
Jannik Sinner of Italy (No. 1) was the tournament’s reigning champion. As the event’s top seed this year, he lost in the second round against Bublik. That ended the Italian’s streak of 66 consecutive wins against players ranked outside of the Top 20 as well as his streak of 19 consecutive quarterfinal appearances. Nevertheless, he will enter his 55th consecutive week as the tour’s top player when the rankings update. Furthermore, Medvedev was the event’s third seed while Bublik competed as an unseeded player.
Bublik arrived in the final after winning against Alexandre Müller of France (No. 40), Sinner, seventh seed Tomáš Macháč of the Czech Republic (No. 23), and eighth seed Karen Khachanov of Russia (No. 22). This was the 12th ATP final he has competed in and his third at a 500-level event.
In the other half of the main draw, Medvedev defeated wildcard Daniel Altmaier of Germany (No. 52), Quentin Halys of France (No. 48), Alex Michelsen of the United States (No. 33), and second seed Alexander Zverev of Germany (No. 3). This was the 39th ATP final he has contested and his tenth at a 500-level event.
The revised rankings for the 2025 ATP Tour will be officially released on Monday, June 23. The tour will then play two tournaments from June 22-28: the Mallorca Championships in Santa Ponsa, Spain (an ATP 250 event) and the Eastbourne Open in Eastbourne, United Kingdom (an ATP 250 event). Both competitions will be played on grass courts.
Alejandro Tabilo of Chile (No. 55) is the reigning champion at the Mallorca Championships. He has withdrawn from the main draw of this year’s event. Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz of the United States (No. 4) is the reigning champion at the Eastbourne Open. He is looking to defend the title as the event’s top seed this year. The Top 4 seeds will receive byes into the second round of competition.
Furthermore, Medvedev will not be competing anywhere this week. And finally, Bublik will appear in the Eastbourne Open as an unseeded player. In the first round, he will face off against Francisco Comesaña of Argentina (No. 64).
