Benjamin Bonzi Claims His Maiden ATP Title at 2024 Moselle Open
The French player prevailed against Cameron Norrie of the United Kingdom in the final.
Benjamin Bonzi of France, 28, defeated Cameron Norrie of the United Kingdom, 29, to win the Men’s Singles title at the 2024 Moselle Open in Metz, France (an ATP 250 event). The score in the final was 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker) and 6-4 in favor of Bonzi.
This was the first match Bonzi and Norrie have ever played against each other on the ATP Tour. Today’s victory was the first title Bonzi has won on the 2024 ATP Tour and the first title of his career in single’s competition. Notably, he becomes the twelfth player to win his first ATP title during 2024 and the second from France following Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. His maiden title came from a hard court event at the 250-level. Moreover, he becomes the eighth player representing France to win the title in Metz - joining Arnaud Clément, Jérôme Haehnel, Ugo Humbert, Gaël Monfils, Lucas Pouille, Gilles Simon and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Heading into this tournament, Norrie was ranked as the Number 57 tennis player on the 2024 ATP Tour, while Bonzi carried the Number 124 designation. By winning in Metz, Bonzi has received 250 points in the overall rankings. Meanwhile, Norrie has picked up 165 points.
Humbert was the tournament’s reigning champion. He withdrew from the main draw this year after reaching the final at the Paris Masters last week. Meanwhile, Norrie entered the main draw as an unseeded player while Bonzi first prevailed during the qualifying competition.
Bonzi arrived in the final after winning against Marc-Andrea Hüsler of Switzerland (No. 151), Manuel Guinard of France (No. 264), Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain (No. 47), second seed Casper Ruud of Norway (No. 7), qualifier Quentin Halys of France (No. 84), and eighth seed Alex Michelsen of the United States (No. 44). This was the third ATP final he has contested.
In the other half of the main draw, Norrie defeated Roberto Carballés Baena of Spain (No. 56), lucky loser Luca Van Assche of France (No. 112), Zizou Bergs of Belgium (No. 61), and Corentin Moutet of France (No. 66). This was the 15th ATP final he has competed in.
The revised rankings for the 2024 ATP Tour will be officially released on Monday, November 11. The tour will then conclude the year with one tournament from November 10-17: the 2024 ATP Finals in Turin, Italy. The year-end championship will be played on hard courts.
The eight players who qualified for the 2024 ATP Finals are Jannik Sinner of Italy (No. 1), Alexander Zverev of Germany (No. 2), Carlos Alcaraz of Spain (No. 3), Daniil Medvedev of Russia (No. 4), Taylor Fritz of the United States (No. 6), Ruud, Alex de Minaur of Australia (No. 8) and Andrey Rublev of Russia (No. 9).
