Senate Confirms Brandon Scott Long as Judge for Eastern District of Louisiana
Long becomes the 164th federal judge confirmed since Joe Biden became President.
The U.S. Senate today held a recorded vote to confirm one individual as an Article III federal judge. With this confirmation, 164 judges nominated by President Joe Biden have now been confirmed by the Senate. With today’s action, 124 of Biden’s judicial nominees have been approved for service on federal district courts.
In a 64-22 vote, Brandon Scott Long was confirmed as a Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He is Biden’s second confirmation to the 12-person court, with one additional vacancy awaiting an official nominee.
Long assumes the New Orleans-based seat previously held by Martin Leach-Cross Feldman, who died while in office in January 2022. A nominee of President Ronald Reagan, Feldman served on this court from 1983 to 2022. Long was nominated to this seat on the federal judiciary by Biden in June 2023.
From 2005 to 2010, Long was an associate at King & Spalding in Washington, D.C. From 2010 to 2014, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. Since 2014, he has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana. From February 2020 to July 2021, he was detailed to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff to FBI Director Christopher Wray in Washington, D.C.
