Elkhart County Judge Gretchen S. Lund Joins Federal Bench in Northern District of Indiana
Lund becomes the 171st federal judge confirmed by the Senate during Joe Biden's presidency.
The U.S. Senate today held a recorded vote to confirm one individual as an Article III federal judge. With this confirmation, 171 judges nominated by President Joe Biden have now been confirmed by the Senate. With today’s action, 131 of Biden’s judicial nominees have been approved for service on federal district courts.
In an 87-6 vote, Gretchen S. Lund was confirmed as a Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. She is Biden’s second confirmation to the 5-person court, with no additional vacancies at this time.
Lund assumes the Hammond-based seat previously held by Jon DeGuilio, who took senior status in July 2023. A nominee of President Barack Obama, DeGuilio served on this court from 2010 to 2023 and was Chief Judge from 2020 to 2023. Lund was nominated to this seat on the federal judiciary by Biden in November 2023.
Lund began her legal career as an associate at Ice Miller LLP in Indianapolis, Indiana from 2001 to 2002. She then became a law clerk to U.S. Magistrate Judge William T. Lawrence on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana from 2002 to 2006. That was followed by a stint as Deputy Prosecutor in the Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office from 2006 to 2007. From 2008 to 2014, she served as a Judge on the Goshen City Court. Since 2015, she has been a Judge on the Elkhart County Superior Court in Goshen, Indiana.
