Senate Confirms Harry Coker Jr. as National Cyber Director
Coker becomes the second individual to be confirmed to this position.
The U.S. Senate today held a recorded vote to confirm one individual nominated by President Joe Biden to serve in the executive branch of government - specifically in the Executive Office of the President.
In a 59-40 vote, Harry Coker Jr. was confirmed as National Cyber Director. The position has been led by an acting official since February 2023, when Chris Inglis resigned after serving since July 2021.
Coker was nominated to this position by Biden in July 2023. The office was created under the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021. Inglis became the office’s inaugural leader. Coker is now the second official to receive Senate confirmation for this position.
Coker spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy retiring as a Commander. That was followed by 17 years working at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). From 2017 to 2019, he served as the Executive Director of the National Security Agency (NSA). Since 2019, he has been a Senior Fellow at the Auburn University McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security.
