Jack Draper Makes Top 10 Debut with Title from 2025 Indian Wells Open
The Brit prevailed against Holger Rune of Denmark in the final.
Jack Draper of the United Kingdom, 23, defeated Holger Rune of Denmark, 21, to win the Men’s Singles title at the 2025 Indian Wells Open in Indian Wells, California (an ATP Masters 1000 event). The score in the final was 6-2 and 6-2 in favor of Draper.
This was the second match Draper and Rune have played against each other on the ATP Tour - with Rune winning their prior meeting. Today’s victory was the first title Draper has won on the 2025 ATP Tour and the third title of his career in single’s competition. Notably, this was the second title he has claimed from a hard court event and his first from a 1000-level tournament. That makes this the biggest victory of his career to date. And finally, he becomes the second player representing the United Kingdom to win the title in Indian Wells since the event joined the tour in 1974 - joining Cameron Norrie in 2021.
Heading into this tournament, Rune was ranked as the Number 13 tennis player on the 2025 ATP Tour, while Draper carried the Number 14 designation. By winning in Indian Wells, Draper has received 1,000 points in the overall rankings. As a result, he will make his Top 10 debut with a Number 7 finish. Meanwhile, Rune has picked up 650 points.
Carlos Alcaraz of Spain (No. 3) was the tournament’s two-time reigning champion. He was attempting to become the third player to win the Indian Wells title in three consecutive. Instead, the event’s second seed lost in the semifinals against Draper. Furthermore, Rune and Draper were the competition’s 12th and 13th seeds, respectively. All seeds received byes into the second round.
Draper arrived in the final after winning against wildcard João Fonseca of Brazil (No. 80), protected ranking Jenson Brooksby of the United States (No. 937), third seed Taylor Fritz of the United States (No. 4), 11th seed Ben Shelton of the United States (No. 12), and Alcaraz. This was the sixth ATP final he has competed in and his first at a 1000-level event.
In the other half of the main draw, Rune defeated Corentin Moutet of France (No. 79), 18th seed Ugo Humbert of France (No. 19), eighth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece (No. 9), Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands (No. 43), and fifth seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia (No. 6). This was the 10th ATP final he has contested and his fourth at a 1000-level event.
The revised rankings for the 2025 ATP Tour will be officially released on Monday, March 17. The tour will then play one tournament from March 18-30: the Miami Open in Miami Gardens, Florida (an ATP Masters 1000 event). The competition will be played on hard courts.
Jannik Sinner of Italy (No. 1) is the reigning champion at the Miami Open. He is unable to defend the title though as he is serving a suspension for positive doping tests from February 9 to May 4, 2025. Meanwhile, Draper and Rune will be competing as the event’s sixth and eleventh seeds, respectively.
