Top Seed Jessica Pegula Captures Title at 2025 Bad Homburg Open
The American has now won WTA titles on all three court surfaces this year.
Jessica Pegula of the United States, 31, defeated Iga Świątek of Poland, 24, to win the Women’s Singles title at the 2025 Bad Homburg Open in Bad Homburg, Germany (a WTA 500 event). The score in the final was 6-4 and 7-5 in favor of Pegula.
This was the 11th match Pegula and Świątek have played against each other on the WTA Tour - with Świątek leading 6-4 in their head-to-head. Notably, this was the third final they’ve faced off in. Świątek won both the Qatar Open in February 2023 and the WTA Finals in November 2023 against Pegula.
Today’s victory was the third title Pegula has won on the 2025 WTA Tour and the ninth title of her career in single’s competition. She has now claimed a title from all three court surfaces during the 2025 season so far. This was the second title she has taken from a grass court event and her third from a 500-level tournament. And finally, she becomes the first player representing the United States to win the title in Bad Homburg since the event joined the tour in 2021.
Heading into this tournament, Pegula was ranked as the Number 3 tennis player on the 2025 WTA Tour, while Świątek carried the Number 8 designation. By winning in Bad Homburg, Pegula has received 500 points in the overall rankings. Meanwhile, Świątek has picked up 325 points.
Diana Shnaider of Russia (No. 12) was the tournament’s reigning champion. This year as the event’s sixth seed, she lost in the first round against Donna Vekić of Croatia (No. 22) in a rematch of the 2024 final. Furthermore, Pegula and Świątek were the event’s first and fourth seeds, respectively. The top four seeds received byes into the second round of competition.
Pegula arrived in the final after winning against qualifier Kateřina Siniaková of the Czech Republic (No. 78), fifth seed Emma Navarro of the United States (No. 10), and Linda Nosková of the Czech Republic (No. 30). This was the 19th WTA final she has competed in and her sixth at a 500-level event. To win the title, she prevailed against two Top 10 players this week.
In the other half of the main draw, Świątek defeated qualifier Victoria Azarenka of Belarus (No. 105), eighth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia (No. 18), and second seed Jasmine Paolini of Italy (No. 4). This was the 27th WTA final she has contested and her seventh at a 500-level event.
The revised rankings for the 2025 WTA Tour will be officially released on Monday, June 30. The tour will then play one tournament from June 30-July 13: Wimbledon in London, United Kingdom (a Grand Slam event). The competition will be played on grass courts.
Barbora Krejčíková of the Czech Republic (No. 17) is the reigning champion at Wimbledon. She is looking to defend the title as the 17th seed at this year’s event. In the first round, she will face off against Alexandra Eala of the Philippines (No. 74).
Furthermore, Pegula and Świątek will be competing as the third and eight seeds, respectively, at the year’s third Grand Slam. In the first round, Pegula will battle Elisabetta Cocciaretto of Italy (No. 122) while Świątek will play Polina Kudermetova of Russia (No. 63).
