Joint battled Alexandra Eala of the Philippines in the final.
Maya Joint of Australia, 19, defeated Alexandra Eala of the Philippines, 20, to win the Women’s Singles title at the 2025 Eastbourne Open in Eastbourne, United Kingdom (a WTA 250 event). The score in the final was 6-4, 1-6 and 7-6 (12-10 tiebreaker) in favor of Joint.
This was the first match Eala and Joint have ever played against each other on the WTA Tour. Today’s victory was the second title Joint has won on the 2025 WTA Tour and the second title of her career in single’s competition. Notably, this was the first title she has claimed from a grass court event and her second from a 250-level tournament. And finally, she becomes the first player representing Australia to win the title in Eastbourne since the event joined the tour in 1974!
Heading into this tournament, Joint was ranked as the Number 51 tennis player on the 2025 WTA Tour, while Eala carried the Number 74 designation. By winning in Eastbourne, Joint has received 250 points in the overall rankings. Meanwhile, Eala has picked up 163 points.
Daria Kasatkina of Australia (No. 16) was the tournament’s reigning champion - when she still represented Russia. This year as the event’s top seed, she lost in the first round against Lulu Sun of Australia (No. 46). Furthermore, Joint entered the main draw as an unseeded player while Eala first prevailed during the qualifying competition.
Joint arrived in the final after winning against Ons Jabeur of Tunisia (No. 59), seventh seed Emma Raducanu of the United Kingdom (No. 38), Anna Blinkova of Russia (No. 69), and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia (No. 53). This was the second WTA final she has contested. Both were at 250-level events.
In the other half of the main draw, Eala defeated Zeynep Sönmez of Türkiye (No. 88), Hailey Baptiste of the United States (No. 54), Lucia Bronzetti of Italy (No. 61), third seed Jeļena Ostapenko of Latvia (No. 20), Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine (No. 42), and qualifier Varvara Gracheva of France (No. 111). This was the first WTA final she has competed in.
The revised rankings for the 2025 WTA Tour will be officially released on Monday, June 30. The tour will then play one tournament from June 30-July 13: Wimbledon in London, United Kingdom (a Grand Slam event). The competition will be played on grass courts.
Barbora Krejčíková of the Czech Republic (No. 17) is the reigning champion at Wimbledon. She is looking to defend the title as the 17th seed at this year’s event. In the first round, she will face off against Eala. Meanwhile, Joint will play against 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova of Russia (No. 19) in the first round.
