The special election for Oklahoma State Senate District 32 was called following the resignation of State Senator John Michael Montgomery, a Republican, to become President of the Lawton Chamber of Commerce. He represented this district from November 2018 to August 2023.
Republican Dusty Deevers has been declared the winner in the special election. The race was called in his favor as he’s currently leading with 55.48% against Democrat Larry Bush with 44.52%. 5,595 votes have been counted.
Deevers has served as the Pastor of Grace Community Church in Elgin, Oklahoma since May 2016.
Bush founded the Larry Bush Insurance agency over 20 years ago and volunteers for Lawton Public Schools - notably running the LPS Foundation’s Booster Club.
Oklahoma State Senate District 32 covers parts of Lawton and Comanche Counties.
Once Deevers is sworn-in, Republicans will maintain control of the Oklahoma State Senate with a 40-8 supermajority against Democrats. 24 seats will next be up for regular four-year terms in November 2024, with the remaining 24 seats (including District 32) up in November 2026.
