Republican Jeffrey Olsommer Prevails in Special Election for Pennsylvania State House District 139
The special election was called following the resignation of State Representative Joseph Adams (R).
The special election occurred today to fill a vacancy in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. This is the second special election in 2024 for the state’s lower legislative chamber. The Democratic and Republican candidates were chosen by local party leaders.
The special election for Pennsylvania State House District 139 was called following the resignation of State Representative Joseph Adams, a Republican, due to family medical issues. He represented this district from January 2023 to February 2024.
Republican Jeffrey Olsommer has been declared the winner in the special election. The race was called in his favor as he’s currently leading with 60.3% against Democrat Robin Skibber with 39.7%. 11,836 votes have been counted.
Olsommer currently serves as Chair of the Sterling Township Board of Supervisors and as a board member of the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation.
Skibber recently retired as Head of Pike County’s Area Agency on Aging after holding the position since 2001.
Pennsylvania State House District 139 covers parts of Pike and Wayne Counties in the northeastern corner of the state.
Once Olsommer is sworn in, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives will feature 102 Democrats and 101 Republicans. The chamber has no additional vacancies at this time. All 203 seats will be up for regular two-year terms in November 2024 - with the primaries for each seat also happening today.
