Reba McEntire Plots Sitcom Return with Pilot Order at NBC
The Grammy winner will star in and executive produce the untitled potential series.
Reba McEntire is plotting her return to broadcast network sitcoms. NBC has today ordered a pilot for a new multi-camera comedy starring and executive produced by the multiple Grammy Award winner. This marks the first official pilot order by any of the five broadcast networks for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
In the untitled sitcom, McEntire will play a woman who inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.
Kevin Abbott wrote the pilot. He will executive produce with McEntire, Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis and Julie Abbott. Universal Television will produce.
McEntire previously starred in Reba, which aired for six seasons on The WB and later The CW. The new pilot is a reunion for the creative team as Hanel and Schultheis worked on Reba for its entire series run, while Kevin Abbott joined the comedy after its first season.
In recent years, McEntire has taken on more acting roles. She has recurred on CBS’ Young Sheldon since its third season. She starred in the third season of ABC’s Big Sky. And finally, she starred in and executive produced the Lifetime movie The Hammer - acting opposite her boyfriend Rex Linn and her former Reba co-star Melissa Peterman.
Throughout her singing career, McEntire has released 32 studio albums and received 17 Grammy Award nominations - winning three to date. Her most recent work, Not That Fancy, was released in October 2023.
The pilot order will also expand McEntire’s relationship with NBC. She became a coach on The Voice last fall for its 24th season. She will join John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay as coaches for the upcoming 25th season, which premieres February 26, 2024.
