Incumbent Domenic Sarno and Justin Hurst Advance to Mayoral General Election in Springfield, Massachusetts
The 5-term incumbent faced four challengers on the nonpartisan primary ballot.
The nonpartisan primary occurred today to select the top two candidates to advance to the November general election for Mayor of Springfield, Massachusetts. The top two candidates will advance to the general election even if one achieves a 50%+1 majority on today’s ballot.
Five-term incumbent Mayor Domenic Sarno and Justin Hurst will advance to the general election. The race was called in their favor, with Sarno at 47.85% and Hurst at 28.84%. The remainder of the vote was given to Orlando Ramos with 13.65%, Jesse Lederman with 9.03%, and David F. Ciampi with 0.62%. 14,881 votes have currently been counted.
Sarno has served as the Mayor of Springfield, Massachusetts since January 2008 - making him the longest-serving mayor in the city’s history. He previously represented an At-Large District on the Springfield City Council from 2000 to 2007.
Hurst and Lederman both currently represent At-Large Districts on the Springfield City Council - with Hurst serving since January 2014 and Lederman serving since January 2018.
Ramos has represented the 9th Hampden District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since January 2021.
Ciampi has never held public office before. He works as a counselor and psychotherapist.

The general election to elect the Mayor of Springfield, Massachusetts will occur on November 7, 2023. While the ballot is officially nonpartisan, both Sarno and Hurst identify as Democrats.
