Incumbent Karen Bass Advances to Second Round in Los Angeles Mayoral Election
California also conducted its mayoral elections in Chula Vista, Long Beach, Richmond, San Bernardino, and Torrance.
The mayoral elections occurred today in California for Chula Vista, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Richmond, San Bernardino, and Torrance. All of these cities have populations exceeding 100,000. Separate posts will be covering the primaries for federal races, statewide executive offices, both chambers of the state legislature, and county contests.
In California, all candidates compete on the same ballot today with the top two finishers advancing to the general election. Unlike the races for statewide, federal, and legislative positions, a candidate for mayor in these cities can be elected outright today by achieving a 50%+1 majority. In that case, a second round of voting won’t be required this fall. These offices are officially nonpartisan as well.
For the California mayoral offices requiring a second round, those elections will take place on November 3, 2026.
